Sunrise at the continents eastern most point and a deeply moving experience
for Céline and I for a couple reasons. We had the privilege of
partaking in a bonding ceremony at sunrise as two wonderful friends of
ours became one. And the realization that the we are done with our eastward
trek and after a couple days rest at our friends home near St. John's
we head off toward home. |
| As we stood in silence for awhile watching a day begin the thoughts
of home started sounding pretty good. After driving 4,600 km in 10 days
even the dog was showing signs of road weariness. We left Cape Spear at
6:30 and went back into St. John's to explore a bit before joining our
friends at their home where we rested for a couple days before taking
the 14 hour ferry back to the mainland. |

Quidi Vidi is a small fishing village just outside of St. John's and
still looks much as it did 50 years ago. Seemingly untouched by the major
city next door the people here still live off the sea the way their parents
and grandparents did. |
| The village of Quidi Vidi was originally constructed by the French in
1762 and was taken by the British after the Seven Years' War which was
won in St. John's around 1775 |
