Before going to the lighthouse at Peggy's Cove we stopped at the nearby
Swiss Air flight 111 memorial. The plane crashed off these shores on September 2nd 1998 with 229 men, women and children on board. Locals tell us the community was deeply changed by the tragedy. More info on the crash and aftermath here |
| The view from the memorial looking towards the lighthouse at Peggy's Cove. All the rocks dotting the landscape here are granite and vary in sizes from pebbles to the size of city blocks. | ![]() |
| Most of the population of Peggy's Cove, (about 50) make their living from fishing or tourism, and the Cove has been a fishing village since it's founding in 1811. The lighthouse built in 1914 is probably the most photographed in the world. | |
| Rogue waves have been known to sweep away careless adventurers on these rocks. Even during calm seas like these the waves pound away at the granite relentlessly. | ![]() |
